Resolutions Day 3: "A Running Start"

If you've been tracking with me the past few days- you will notice that I'm doing a "15 resolutions for the 15 days leading up to New Year's day" sort of thing. I started Saturday, and we're now down to resolution #3.

You can read my first resolution here and my second one here.

Have you been taking some time to think about yours? This is a really good "blog project" for me, because instead of sitting down on January 1st and busting out a list of everything that pops off the top of my head- I'm actually taking an entire day at a time to think about each resolution. To let it sit and sink in and slowly come to the forefront of my brain. I feel like each resolution is a bit more meaningful that way.

It's not too late to join me! You can start today. 13 resolutions- today until New Year's Day- that you want to set for yourself in 2011. Or wait a couple of days and do 11 resolutions for 2011.

Well, shoot. That's catchy. I should have done that.

Oh well- I'm already off and running! 15 resolutions it is.

Speaking of running, here's resolution #3:

Run the Tulsa Run in October 2011 and reach my goal weight.

I'm trying to stay away from vague resolutions, like "get in shape." So, this is very specific: run the Tulsa run. I have 10 months to train for it, and I've already started. (Go me! No waiting until January 1st on this one!) I also have included reach my goal weight- no, I'm not sharing- which hopefully will come about thanks to the whole run-the-Tulsa-run thing.

But, you never know. Every quarter mile I run every day exponentially increases my craving for M&M's. At this rate... we're looking at a disaster by the time I'm running 9 miles.

Ah, well. It's a good resolution, none-the-less. I honestly feel better when I get up and run. I have more energy, more patience (explain that one to me?!) and a bigger drive to eat better. Except for those stupid M&M's.

So, there you go! Resolution #3. Keep tuning in for my additional resolutions. And start thinking of your own! 2011 is just over a week away! :)

Me & "T"

I have a love/hate relationship with this guy.

And since I'm hoping to run this in a couple of months... we're about to get really intimate.

Really intimate.

Eventually, I'll run outside.

But for now... it's just me... and "T".

("T" being the treadmill.)
Did it insult you that I just explained that?

How are you staying in shape this summer?

Or... are you just eating a lot of this?

Because.... I did.  This weekend.

I hate bathing suits,

Guest Blog #4: Get Fit

Guest Blogger #4:  Alison O'Donnell (on the right!)

Everybody has some kind of incentive to go to the gym; for some it may be a beach trip you are planning this summer, or maybe you have a wedding or bridesmaids dress to fit into, or maybe you are determined that this is the year you will be that size 2 you know you were meant to be.

 For me, it’s a man.

Most of you are probably thinking I am trying to get a boy to notice me... but the plain simple truth is, I have a "LA Fitness Romance." There is a young, hot, trainer at the gym that I literally go EVERYDAY to the gym for. I don’t really like to work-out. I've never been one of those people who get the "runners high" or whatever. But for those people that know me, if a hot guy is involved... I am bound to do just about anything.

Now you also might think that this is a "gym romance" where a lot of interaction is involved. That we whisper sweet, sweaty nothings in each others ears or we have random make out sessions in the locker room. Well you would be dead wrong. In fact, we have never met and have never spoken one word to each other. The only contact we have had is when we catch ourselves looking at one another from across the gym.

It’s childish, I realize this. Talking to him would make my week, no my five months that I've been dedicated to going, so what’s holding me back?? I don’t make the first move EVER. I don’t believe in it and as much as i want to run up to him and say "actions DONT speak louder than words," I’m old fashioned and believe that God gave guys a special ability that enables them to talk to a girl first.  I will NOT budge. The only thing that I have actually gotten from this experience is a little bit of weight loss; which in my mind doesn't even matter if a boy won’t talk to you....

ANYWAYS..Lindsay told me to write about working out so this is all I got. If you haven't tried spin, definitely do it and if you don’t have an incentive to go to the gym...get a "gym romance."

Lindsay's lovely and lucky in "LA" love little sister,

"A"

Thanks, Ali!  (Even though I think you look hot, whether a guy notices or not!)

Exercise & Deprivation: A Perfect Pair

Like everyone else in the world, one of my New Year's Resolutions is to get back in shape. And for me, that means.... hit the pavement. Or, the treadmill... until the weather is consistently sunny and relatively warm. I have strict requirements for outside running.

Look at that happy, smiling, triumphant face. This is me, after the Tulsa Run in 2008. I think I was in my best shape ever! I ran 9.3 miles without breaking a sweat, without a sip of water, without even blinking. I came in first place.

Ok, none of that is true- except the running of the 9.3 miles. And I did run that- without stopping!

The problem is, once I stopped.... I stopped. SO- time to start running again. When I started training for the Tulsa Run, I used this Couch to 5k program; then, I moved onto the 15k training program. I'm doing that all over again. I'm already on week two... so I just have to keep going! Here's the program, in case you're interested.

Tulsa Run 2010, here I come!

So, since I'm trying to eat better, I've cut out SOME liquid calories Monday through Friday. Here are two of the victims:

Sorry, sweet tea and wine. (And soda.) See you on Saturday & Sunday.
